Synopsis:
Avraham Broides was the lyricist with whom Lavry wrote the most songs. The song Kacha Merakdim Beyisrael (That’s The Way We Dance In Israel), was written in 1952 and continued being very popular during the 50’s and 60’s. It was performed by Israel’s top artists like Shoshana Damari, Yaffa Yarkoni, and Hanna Aharoni, for whom Lavry created a coloratura version to feature her unique voice range of 4 octaves.

The vibrant rhythm of the song and the sweeping dance led to many instrumental performances in which Lavry showcased his love for jazz and improvisations.

(Transliteration from Hebrew)

Hineh banim uvanot, chavura zorachat,
Kacha merakdim beyisrael.
Hineh dolkim al t’homot, guf vaguf beyachad,
Kacha merakdim beyisrael

Hineh rikud meshaker vehalev patu’ach,
Kacha merakdim beyisrael,
Hineh nigun mitromem venisa baru’ach –
Kacha merakdim beyisrael!

Haya, haya, kach chevraya,
