Synopsis: With Marc Lavry’s sudden death at the age of 63, two compositions remained on his piano, Capriccio Bashemesh (Capriccio in the Sun) for Orchestra, Opus 349 and Variations for Piano, Opus 350.

As part of the Year of Marc Lavry, in celebration of his 120th birthday, and 57 years after his death, both compositions were premiered.

The definition of the word ‘Capriccio’ in music is a musical part of a free and informal nature, characterized by playfulness and creativity. Indeed, this is Lavry’s capriccio in the sun: lively, lyrical and rhythmic.

The composition has four themes:

• Theme 1: Dynamic – opens the composition with momentum and power
• Topic 2: Lyrical – a song that begins with horns as a chamber choir
• Theme 3: Free, dreamy
• Topic 4: A sweeping and infectious dance is so typical of Lavry

Capriccio in the Sun for Orchestra is a virtuoso and energetic symphonic poem.
In this composition Marc Lavry is at the his peak maturity in terms of the language of Israeli music. The brilliant orchestration combines a complex and sophisticated use of solo parts, chamber groups within the orchestra and, of course, a full orchestra.
