Synopsis:
The Concerto for Viola and Orchestra demonstrates Marc Lavry’s unique understanding of the characteristics of the Viola and features musical themes that were synonymous with his work:

  • Allegro: features the deep yet strong sound of the viola
  • Andante: incorporates the beautiful and lyrical quality of the viola into an intimate prayer-like music
  • Allegro Moderato: is rhythmically complex, humorous, and demonstrates the percussive yet virtuosic quality of the viola.

Both the second and the third movements are based on themes from Lavry’s own repertoire, a common practice of the composer.
