Synopsis:
Concertino for Kanun (Qanun), English Horn, Clarinet, Strings and Percussion was written for Avraham David Cohen, a kanun player who immigrated from Iraq, where he was well known as an artist, to Israel 10 years earlier.
Despite his notoriety Cohen could not read music and played by ear only. Lavry, who wrote the concertino for Cohen, invited his friend and colleague Arieh Sachs to play the Kanun part on harpsichord. They recorded the concertino and Avraham David Cohen learned to play the composition by listening to it.
